Nuclear medicine has traditionally been strongly diagnostically oriented, but in recent decades has increasingly developed therapeutically as well. A key example of this development is radioligand therapy, which combines diagnostic and therapeutic approaches: Radioactively labeled ligands are initially used for imaging and subsequently for targeted treatment. This method is currently used primarily for neuroendocrine tumors and prostate cancer. The White Paper offers a comprehensive analysis of the current state of nuclear medicine diagnostics and therapy, identifies existing gaps in care, and develops concrete recommendations for the further development of care structures. It is based on the assessments of expert panels from clinical practice, health insurance providers, and patient advocacy groups. Key challenges are systematically examined, including outpatient care, reimbursement structures, and the implementation of innovative therapeutic approaches. The work is aimed at decision-makers in the healthcare system – including medical professionals, payers, political actors, professional societies, regulatory institutions, and patient organizations – and is intended to serve as a sound basis for the further development of nuclear medicine care.en_US
