Literary translation always involves engaging with linguistic structures and reflecting on cultural particularities – areas that are equally relevant to both linguistics and literary studies. This is why Katrin B. Karl and Christian Zehnder bring together the core disciplines of Slavic studies: in a joint practical seminar, students analyze, contextualize, and translate contemporary Russian-language prose texts. Five highly diverse short stories by Yevgenia Belorusets, Olga Bragina, Mikhail Gigolashvili, Maxim Osipov, and Mikhail Shishkin are presented here for the first time in both German and Russian, accompanied by philological commentaries and reflections on the translation process. Language biographies provide insights into the use of Russian in multilingual settings. This volume is intended as an open resource at various intersections – as a reader, as material for academic teaching, and as a resource for language didactics.en_US
