This volume seeks to map and elucidate the diverse relationships between the religious and secular spheres in South, East, Southeast, and Inner Asia, as well as the Himalayan region – areas where Buddhism became one of the most prominent traditions. Presenting texts spanning approximately 2000 years, the volume aims to illustrate the emergence of culturally specific forms of secularity in Asia, by exploring emic discourses.
