        Die Zisterzienser im frühneuzeitlichen Corpus helveticum

        Abstract
        Im Hochmittelalter als Reformorden gegründet, fanden die Zisterzienser in der Forschung zum frühneuzeitlichen Katholizismus bisher wenig Beachtung. Am Beispiel der Klöster St. Urban und Wettingen zeigt Lukas Camenzind auf, dass sich die Zisterzienser im konfessionellen Zeitalter geschickt an die neuen politischen und religiösen Verhältnisse anpassten. Durch weitgespannte Netzwerke, einen flexiblen Umgang mit Observanz und überraschend pragmatisches politisches Handeln gelang es den Äbten und Mönchen, in einem von Konfessionskonflikten geprägten Raum ihre Eigenständigkeit zu behaupten und einen Ausgleich mit der römischen Kurie zu finden. Die eigentümliche Symbiose von religiöser Erneuerung und korporativem Eigensinn steht beispielhaft für die innere Vielfalt des frühneuzeitlichen Katholizismus.

        Export search results
