This book examines the aesthetic issues surrounding film music during the silent film era, in the context of contemporary film music criticism. Journalistic criticism offers an insight into the practice of film music during this period, providing a theoretical and aesthetic perspective. It is here that the first theoretical reflections on film composition converge, pressing dramaturgical issues are debated and the inherently aesthetic experience of music is given an intellectual interpretation. Das Buch untersucht das ästhetische Problem der Filmmusik in der Stummfilmzeit anhand zeitgenössischer journalistischer Quellen.
